Polyandry in bronze-winged jacana
The Metopidius indicus are territorial and sex-role reversed birds. They are polyandrous, the females mating with more than one male in the breeding season. Further the males carry out all family responsibilities like incubating the eggs and care of the precocial chicks. The female role is only mating with and providing clutches for each of its males. In fact, the females compete with each other to have a harem of males and to hold territories. The female territories encompassed 1 to 4 male territories. The males compete for space and establish territories and defend them aggressively. The female territory is superimposed on male territories.
