The red-naped ibis (Pseudibis papillosa) belongs to the family Threskiornithidae. The red-naped ibis is distributed in the Indian Subcontinent including, Pakistan, India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Myanmar. The IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) has categorized and evaluated these ibis species and has listed them of "least concern".
The red-naped ibis is a medium sized bird, measuring 60 to 70 cm in length. It has a wingspan of about 90 to 120 cm. Bright reddish warts are found on the crown and the nape, hence the name. It is a black bird with a patch of white near the shoulder. These birds inhabit grasslands, meadows, fallow lands, marshes, riverbeds and irrigated farmland. They feed on frogs, fish, worms, insects, small reptiles. They breed during March to October. They build nest in trees.
