Chestnut-headed oropendola taxonomy
The family Icteridae comprises colorful, New-World passerine birds. The family Icteridae was first introduced by Nicholas Aylward Vigors (1785 – 26 October 1840), an Irish zoologist and politician, in the year 1825.The family Icteridae contains 28 extant genera, including genus Psarocolius. The genus Psarocolius was first described by Johann Georg Wagler (28 March 1800 – 23 August 1832), a German herpetologist, in the year 1827.
The genus Psarocolius tentatively comprises six species, including Psarocolius wagleri. The species Psarocolius wagleri was first described by John Edward Gray, FRS (12 February 1800 – 7 March 1875), a British zoologist, in the year 1845.
The species Psarocolius wagleri is polytypic. The species Psarocolius wagleri comprises two subspecies, viz., Psarocolius wagleri wagleri and Psarocolius wagleri ridgwayi.
