Barrow's goldeneye taxonomy
The family Anatidae was first introduced by William Elford Leach, MD, FRS (2 February 1791 – 25 August 1836), an English zoologist and marine biologist, in the year 1820.The family Anatidae comprises tentatively seven subfamilies, including Anatinae. The subfamily Anatinae was first introduced by William Elford Leach in the year 1820. The subfamily Anatinae comprises tentatively eight genera, including Bucephala.
The genus Bucephala was first introduced by Spencer Fullerton Baird (February 3, 1823 – August 19, 1887), an American naturalist, ornithologist, ichthyologist and herpetologist, in the year 1858.
The genus Bucephala comprises three species, viz., Bucephala islandica, Bucephala clangula and Bucephala albeola.
The species Bucephala islandica was first described by Johann Friedrich Gmelin (8 August 1748 – 1 November 1804), a German naturalist, botanist, entomologist, herpetologist and malacologist, in the year 1789.
