The genus Anastomus comprises two extant species, viz., Anastomus oscitans and Anastomus lamelligerus.

The species Anastomus oscitans was first described by Pieter Boddaert (1730 – 6 May 1795), a Dutch physician and naturalist, in the year 1783. The species Anastomus oscitans is a monotypic species.
